Mike’s Travel Blog

A selection of my scientific travel adventures since I started taking pictures with my smartphone. I started this post in January 2022 as I looked back through my pics, so it is not comprehensive, just the pictures I happened to save.

May 12, 2022: UVA Hospital - Jamaica Plain

We encountered a problem on a recently moved LN Scope where the focal point on the 4X objective and the 40X objective was off by 2000um (2mm). I re-installed the system, but the problem persisted forcing me to troubleshoot down to the individual optical component level. What I discovered is that there is a spacer disk in the Olympus beam path that was too thick by 2mm. Removing and replacing the spacer with a thinner one solved the problem. There was also a severed cable on one of the manipulators, but I will have to come back to fix that rather than send it back to the factory in Germany. Stay tuned…..
